Rachel Meets Grant (Spike)

Rachel met Grant yesterday. We went over to Becky's house and hung out all afternoon. Looking at them together, she is looking so much less like a newborn. He is about 2 1/2 weeks old and she is about 12 1/2 weeks old.

Grant used Rachel for a pillow and found her to be quite comfortable and she did not mind one bit.

Here they are trying to hold hands.

Even if they don't end up getting married, I think that they will be the best of friends. Wow, they are both so darn cute (if I do say so myself).

First Trip to the Wild Animal Park

Rachel and I went to the Wild Animal Park on Wednesday with my dad and 2 of Rachel's cousins, Jaylin and Kyle. I am hoping to go a lot this summer. I figured with all of the hills, walking her stroller around will get me a good workout.
Rachel's first ride on the tram.

It was great to get a picture of Jaylin smiling and not hiding her face. She has become camera shy...I think it is a 12 year old thing.

Kyle was my official cameraman for most of the trip. He took my camera and took pictures the entire trip. He also wanted to push Rachel in the stroller. He was a very busy boy.

Not Sure How She Does It

A couple of nights ago, Rachel was sleeping in her sleep positioner. This is how she is supposed to look while in it properly (minus the pouty lip)...

and this is how she woke up, twice. I woke up two different times during the night to feed her and she had moved herself perpendicular to how she was supposed to be. I don't know if she scooted up and then around or rolled. The idea behind the sleep positioner is to keep her from rolling (which she started doing at 3 weeks), so I really don't know how she got there.

I Have Hands?

In the past 2 weeks, Rachel has discovered she has hands. She prefers her hands over her pacifier most of the time. She slurps them so loud. It is so funny to listen to. I will try to post video soon...it cracks me up!

12 Weeks

I can't believe that my little girl is 12 weeks already. She is growing up so quickly. She is changing so much every day. I find more to love about her all of the time. Over the last couple of weeks, she is definitely starting to chunk out a bit. It is so cute.

One of her most recent developments is drooling. I feel like she may be starting to teeth already, but am not completely sure. She won't really let me check. I don't feel anything and she won't show me.

So Much to Say...

Rachel has been talking more and more recently. She has so much to say. I really wish I just knew what she was saying. This is from Father's Day. I think that she is talking about what a great dad she has and how she had a really good time at the Padres game.

First Padres Game

Rachel went to her first Padres game on Father's Day. She was so well behaved. She slept through most of it. She woke up to eat a bottle, but fell asleep shortly after that. She would wake up briefly when the A's fans near us would yell, but would fall quickly back asleep. She was so much better behaved than the annoying kids in front of us. Tim's brothers left to go get a drink in the 6th inning and never came back. They couldn't stand how obnoxious the 4 kids in front of us were. The mom was texting on her phone most of the game and showed little interest in engaging her kids. It showed me how not to be. On a lighter note...the Padres won. That hasn't happened much this year. I think our little girl is a good luck charm.

Father's Day

Yesterday, we celebrated Father's Day by going and watching the Padres (Father's). How fitting. Happy Father's Day, Tim!

The family on Father's Day
I was laughing pretty hard at Tim because in almost every picture, he was closing his eyes or squinting them pretty badly (apparently noon is too early to take pictures). I made him try to take more pictures when we got home from the game, but again, he was squinting (and needed a nap after his long day). I tried to post some of the pictures of him where he is not squinting too much.

11 Weeks

So I don't have much to write today, but my mom wanted to see new pictures, and I have to oblige Grandma.
Rachel is playing with Uncle Sam. Tim's mom pulled this toy out for Rachel to play with and it is from when her boys were little. I know we had one of these too.

She does not get her eyelashes from her mom. If you can click on this picture and make it bigger, you will see how long Rachel's eyelashes are.

Becky's Baby

Baby Spike has arrived and finally has a name.

Grant Lucas Fearing
born June 9, 2009 at 12:12 pm
6 lb 14 oz
19 inches long
Rachel's husband is finally here.  He was born yesterday and is so adorable.  For those of you who do not know, Becky has been my best friend since we were 5 years old.  We have already set up an arranged marriage for Rachel and Grant.   Not really, but it would be cute if they eventually dated.

Here is the happy family.  Everybody is doing great.

Me and Grant.
I started to write Spike.  It is going to be really hard not to call him Spike all of the time.

10 Weeks

Here are a couple of pictures from Rachel's 10 week birthday.

2 Month Doctor Appointment

Rachel had her 2 month doctors appointment yesterday.  Tim and I were both amazed at how much weight she had gained.

She was 11 pounds 6 ounces which put her in the 50th percentile.
She was 23 and 1/2 inches long which put her between the 75th and 90th percentile.
Her head was 13 and 1/2 inches which put her between the 25th and 50th percentile.

Here she is getting an oral vaccine.  She didn't really like it, but was a good girl and took it.

She had to get two shots, one on each leg.  The first shot she barely whimpered but the second shot was so hard to watch...it hurt her a lot.  I have never seen her cry like that before.  It only took her a couple of minutes to calm down.  As you can see, she was alright after, but I still didn't like watching it.

First Trip to the Zoo

Rachel made her first trip to the zoo yesterday.  Even though there were thunderstorms, I really wanted to get out.  It was actually pretty nice at the zoo.
She is smiling in this picture even though she is asleep.

There is a panda just to the right of my hat in this picture.

We went and saw the new elephant exhibit at the zoo.  It was really big.

Here she is sleeping through the rhino exhibit.  She slept over half of the time.  When she was awake, she was really well behaved.  We had a wonderful time on her first trip to the zoo.

Playmat

Rachel has a new favorite toy that she loves.  I got this playmat from my cousins wife.  I pulled it out a couple of days ago, and Rachel has so much fun with it.  There is a star that hangs down from the top and it plays music and lights up.  We set it up to be motion activated and when she kicks the side, it starts to go.  She is so mesmerized by it.  It entertains her for about 30 minutes at a time.

Bath Time

Rachel has come to mostly enjoy her baths now.  She starts off the bath now quite sure about it, but as it goes on, she starts talking and enjoying herself.

I couldn't resist giving her a baby mohawk.  I like how she kind of has a surprised look on her face.  I tried to flatten her hair out after the mohawk, but it mostly stayed all day.

9 Weeks

Rachel turned 9 weeks on Monday.  I went back to work on Monday as well.  Tim got Rachel dressed for the day...and thought it was funny to have her wear this.
She actually did sleep most of the day for him and was up quite a bit of the night for me.  Thanks, Tim!
